CHOOSING A BREEDER

WHY IT MATTERS

Choosing a reputable, responsible breeder gives you the best chance at having a happy, healthy, predictable companion. Reputable breeders care about both the health of their current dogs and the future of the Eurasier and are committed to preserving or improving the integrity of the breed for generations to come.

A REPUTABLE, RESPONSIBLE BREEDER IS ONE WHO:
  • Maintains membership to a breed club

  • Registers their breeding dogs and all puppies with a reputable kennel club such as the Canadian Kennel Club

  • Health tests their dogs' hips, patellas, eyes, and thyroid function at appropriate ages before they are bred

  • Is open about health or temperament problems within their lines when asked

  • Is knowledgable about common ailments within the breed

  • Is willing to let you meet their breeding dogs and visit their facilities before you commit to purchasing a puppy

  • Provides a contract that guarantees the health of the puppy against genetic issues for at least 2 years and promises support for the entire life of the dog

  • Does not release puppies to their new homes until they are at least 8 weeks old

  • Provides robust early socialization for their puppies
